pantheon login util, some questions

For those that might be interested, I've written perl script which will
login to the pantheon host with the lowest load average. It works by
connecting to mars, reading the load-average list from the pre-login
screen, and then 'exec'ing an ssh to that host. To use it, you just type
'ssptel <netid>' at your prompt. You need to have ssh in /usr/local/bin,
otherwise you can modify the script accordingly. It's available by
anonymous ftp to cold-mountain.dc.yale.edu. ssh is available at
http://www.ssh.fi/sshprotocols2/download.html .

Also, I have some questions:

I installed the Java ICQ client, but I get an error when I try to run it:
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: java.awt.Component: method
getSize()Ljava/awt/Dimension; not found

I assume I have the latest version of the JDK with all the standard
classes and whatnot. Has anyone been able to get this to work?

Also, if I wanted to buy a linux-compatible sound card (my current one is
Plug-n-Play), what are some good brands/models? How hard is it to get
sound working?

Thanks,

It is conceivable that one day, computers will be better than humans at
nearly everything. I can imagine that a person might someday have a
computer for a best friend. That will be sad--like having a dog for your
best friend but even sadder.
