Growing up in a family where I was the middle child of three, I learned early the value of making connections. Back then it just meant doing my best to see the world through both my sisters’ eyes, so that I could help them see each other more clearly. Now years later, I’m still seeking to create community where people are listening and learning, connecting with one another, with our world, with our God. My life started in 3 Midwestern states (IL, IN, MO) and my ministries have taken me to 4 Eastern states (VA, VT, NH, CT). I’m married to Tim Keyl, who is Pastor for a Lutheran congregation adjacent to Yale Divinity School, called Bethesda. Tim and I have two children, Gabriel and Bethany, both attending Hamden High School. And we all love our dog, a Boxer, named Sugar. When I think about being a Campus Pastor here in New Haven, I am especially excited about forming an environment where all will feel welcomed and valued. God’s graceful and challenging words come to us in the words of Scripture, in the insights of each other, in our singing and our praying and our times of silent wonder. We’ll gather around Jesus’ Table, forgiven and set free to be God’s loving servants in an aching world. So, I invite you to be in touch. I’ll treat you to a cup of coffee or tea at Starbuck’s, just down the block from Luther House’s home base. My e-mail is karihenkelmann.keyl@yale.edu, and my cell phone number is 603-533-5274.
