1) It's absolutely free! Computing & Information Systems has contracted (at considerable expense) a site-license for Macintosh System 7.5 for the Yale community. So there is no cost to you. So far, so good. (System 7.5 can be found on, and installed from, the "ASHD server".)
2) Memory - System 7.5 has larger requirements for RAM memory than previous versions of the Macintosh system. You should have at least 8 MBytes of memory on your Macintosh to run System 7.5, and 16 MBytes if you have a PowerMac.
3) Disk space - Believe it or not, a complete install of System 7.5 needs about 22 MBytes of disk space on your hard disk, and 26 MBytes if you have a PowerMac.
4) Read. There are "ReadMe"files that accompany the installation process. To save yourself time and trouble later, read them before you begin.
5) "Clean Install"- In order to easily return to your existing environment if you encounter problems, the System 7.5 installer provides you with a way to do a "clean install". A "clean install"creates an entirely new and separate "System Folder", apart from your current "System Folder". Afterwards, you can switch between System 7.5 and your previous system as you wish.
6) PowerTalk - Interesting but probably unnecessary initially. I recommend that you do not install the PowerTalk component of System 7.5.
7) QuickDraw GX- Save yourself time, memory, disk space, and trouble. Do not install this part of System 7.5 yet.
