SCHOLAR 2009 Tours and Field Trips
Adam Krieger Adventure Course – On the first day of SCHOLAR, students and residential advisors traveled to the adventure course behind the Hopkins School in New Haven to participate in icebreaker activities, play trust games, and navigate obstacles in the wooded area behind the school. The goal of this trip was to encourage interaction, build trust and promote team-building.
Sophomore Field Trips
BioBus - The BioBus was piloting a new unit called “The Gene Screen” with SCHOLAR. Students learned how UV light affects DNA using fast-growing yeast.
Peabody Museum of Natural History - Students were treated to two behind-the-scenes tours at the Peabody Museum through the vertebrate paleontology collection and the vertebrate zoology collection.
Junior Field Trips
Kroon Hall Tour - Students toured the eco-friendly Kroon Hall, the new home of Yale’s Forestry & Environmental Sciences School.
MRI Lab Tour – Students visited Dr. Todd Constable’s MRI research lab. They heard about brain function imaging and also saw MRI machines and images.
Senior Field Trips
Watershed Lecture – Martha McCormick Smith met the students over at the Forestry School to give a presentation about the effects of trash on the environment.
Yale Crime Laboratory – Students learned about Yale’s Detective Unit and tour the Yale Crime Lab.
