Yale-themed egg on display at White House

A decorated egg bearing the University seal and the motto "For God, for country and for Yale" will be on public display at the White House during the next few weeks as part of an Easter season exhibition sponsored by the American Egg Board.

The Yale-themed egg was created for the display by Jane Pollak, of Westport, Connecticut. As owner of An Egg by Jane studio, Pollak turns eggshell canvases into elaborate works of art using the traditional Ukrainian dye-and-wax method.

The White House display includes decorated eggs representing all 50 states. Pollak was invited by the New England Poultry Association to create Connecticut's entry. "I decided to do an egg about Yale, which to me is quintessentially Connecticut," says Pollak, who admits the fact that the Clintons are Yale alumni (as is her own daughter, Lindsey Pollak '86) also played a role in her decision.

After the White House exhibition closes, the Yale egg and its counterparts will become part of the White House permanent collection and, eventally, part of the Clinton Library.
