David Tompkins '99 of the men's basketball team has set a new Ivy League record for field goal percentage in Ivy games.
Tompkins shot .724 from the field (71-98) in 14 Ivy League games. The previous mark of .723 was set by Matt White from the University of Pennsylvania in the 1978-79 season.
Tompkins clinched the record with his performance during the final two games. In the contest against Harvard on Feb. 27, he made 10 of 11 shots from the field and scored a career high of 23 points. The next night at Dartmouth, he made all seven of his field goals and finished with 15 points.
Before this season, Tompkins had played a total of 17 minutes and scored only six points. This season, he started 25 of 26 games, shot .664 overall from the field (101-152) and averaged 9.9 points, the third-highest average on the team.
He also led the team in rebounding (7.3 rpg). In Ivy games, Tompkins led the league in rebounding (8.21 rpg) and was 14th in scoring (12.43 ppg).
RIGHT: Although prior to this season, he'd scored only 6 points, junior David Tompkins of the men's basketball team recently set a new Ivy record for baskets scored from the field.
