Crowds of spirited, sports-loving children will cheer on Bulldog teams on Saturday, April 18, when the Athletics Department hosts its spring Youth Day. For some fervent fans, the most challenging part of the day may be choosing which teams to support on the sidelines.
Yale's baseball, softball, lacrosse, tennis and track teams will all compete that day, and most of their games take place simultaneously with or will overlap other competitions.
Children age 14 and under are admitted free to all games (children must be accompanied by an adult). At the conclusion of each event, members of the Yale teams will sign autographs for their young fans.
Youth Day events will begin at approximately 9:30 a.m., when the men's and women's track teams race competitors from Harvard University at Dewitt Cuyler Field. The track competitions will continue until 3:30 p.m.
At noon, the women's softball team will play against Cornell in a doubleheader at the Softball Field. The Yale men's tennis team will compete against players from the University of Pennsylvania at 12:30 p.m. at the Yale Tennis Center.
Three sports events will begin at
1 p.m.: a men's lacrosse game against Harvard at the Soccer/Lax Stadium; a women's lacrosse competition against the University of New Hampshire at the Yale Bowl; and a men's baseball doubleheader against Harvard at Yale Field. (Admission for adults is $3 for the men's lacrosse and baseball games.)
During the day, Yale student-athletes and coaches will also conduct sports clinics for New Haven-area schoolchildren and members of the Department of Athletics Kids' Club. Children will be taught skills in basketball, football, soccer, volleyball and other sports.
In the event of rain, Youth Day will be rescheduled for Saturday, April 25. For further information, call 432-7413.
