An urban comedy by a Canadian playwright, an English melodrama, two one-act plays by absurdist playwright Eugene Ionesco and the world premiere of a new work will be staged as part of the Summer Cabaret's 24th season as New Haven's only professional summer theater. The summer season runs from Wednesday, June 17, to Saturday, Aug. 8.
The summer schedule follows.
June 17-27 -- "Gravity Calling," a comedy written by Toronto actor and playwright Diane Flacks, which will be directed by Annie Dorsen.
July 1-11 -- "2 By Ionesco," featuring two one-act plays by the renowned playwright, including "The Soprano." David Kennedy will direct.
July 15-25 -- "The Vampire," a gothic melodrama from the 1800s written by J.M. Planche and directed by Lisa Channer.
July 29-Aug. 8 -- "Against the Grain," by School of Drama student playwright James Krouse, will have its world premiere. David Kennedy will direct.
Performances are Wednesday-Saturday at 8 p.m. with "After Hours" performances at 10:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Special Tuesday performances at 8 p.m. will be held on June 23, July 8, July 21 and Aug. 4. All performances take place at the Summer Cabaret Theater, 217 Park St.
Prior to each performance, the Cabaret offers a selection of appetizers, soups, salads, entrees, sandwiches and desserts. Kristyn LaPlante is the chef. Doors open for dinner at 6:30 p.m. This year, the Summer Cabaret will offer a "Late Night Cabaret" performance series featuring music, wine and song. Doors reopen at 9:45 p.m. for the "Late Night Cabaret."
Single tickets are $16. Single tickets for the "Late Night Cabaret" performance series are $5. A variety of passport packages are now available, including a discounted package for students with I.D. Passport packages range from $18 to $48.
