The Pilot Pen International Tennis Tournament is played at the state-of-the-art, Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale University. Top-ranked tennis players will be competing in the 1998 men's and women's tournaments.
The men's tournament, which features 56 of the world's top singles players and 28 of the world's best doubles teams, will take place Aug. 17-23. Among this year's competitors are Pete Sampras of the United States, winner of 10 Grand Slam titles; Petr Korda of Czechoslovakia, 1998 winner of the Australian Open; Patrick Rafter of Australia, 1997 U.S. Open champion; Yevgeny Kafelnikov of Russia, 1997 Pilot Pen champion; and Gustavo Kuerten, 1997 French Open champion.
Qualifying dates for the men's tournament are Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 15 and 16. To reserve premier box seats and new box and middle-tier packages, call 1-888-99-PILOT or (203) 776-7331. Individual tickets go on sale Monday, June 1.
The U.S. Women's Hardcourt Championship is scheduled for Aug. 24-31. Defending champion Lindsay Davenport is ex-pected to headline the field. More in-
