The Peace by PEACE at Yale curriculum has been expanded and revised for the 2001-2002 academic year. Founded under the title Peace Games in 1993, Peace by PEACE has grown from a four-session program to a comprehensive thirteen-session curriculum. Today’s curriculum emphasizes the real-world applications of conflict resolution skills, including a lesson on community negotiation and conflict, as well as a session dealing with the recent Jonesboro tragedy.
Peace by PEACE at Yale changed its name from Peace Games
in 1999. This change was made in commitment to the umbrella organization
Peace by PEACE International, and to all Peace by PEACE programs participating
in the international peace effort. Peace by PEACE International is
also affiliated with the Francelia Butler Foundation.
Important message to all volunteer teachers:
In many cases you may find that the curriculum includes more activities than you can fit into one class period. We have packed the sessions with a lot of material, believing that having too much to do with the students if far better than having too little planned. Please use your discretion in choosing which activities you lead with your students.
The Peace by PEACE curriculum is intended to be fun, innovative
and educational. We hope that this curriculum both maintains the
spirit with which Peace Games was founded, and looks toward the future
by addressing real-world problems and conflict resolution strategies.
