Ato Kwamena Onoma, PhD, Northwestern University, 2006 is Assistant Professor of Political Science. He received his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Ghana, Legon. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University’s Niehaus Center for Globalization and Governance before he joined Yale University. His research generally focuses on why various global processes such as the movement of people, goods, ideas and capital lead to the development of markets and socio-political stability in some places but undermine markets and coincide with instability in others. He is the author of the book The politics of property rights institutions in Africa from Cambridge University Press (2009). He is at present working on a book manuscript that explores why local communities live peacefully with refugees in most instances but launch coordinated violent attacks on refugee communities in a few cases. He has done field research for this work in the Mano River Basin and the Great Lakes Region in Africa.
