Welcome Welcome to the homepage of the Davenport Pops Orchestra! The Davenport Pops Orchestra, affectionately known as DPops, was formed in the spring of 2005 by Justin S. Lo, then a freshman in Davenport College and now a student at Yale Law School. While there are numerous student music groups at Yale, most focus on classical music. Our orchestra exists to provide the Yale and greater New Haven community with an alternative symphonic experience, focusing on the performance of film, musical, and television scores. We have come a long way from our humble beginnings: we now have over fifty playing members, perform four concerts each season, and enjoy the support of a growing alumni base. We are also preparing for our second annual Maestro of the Moment series in late February. We have invited Tony-nominated musical and film composer David Shire, a member of Yale’s Class of 1959, to conduct and perform his compositions with DPops. David Shire has written music for Baby, Saturday Night Fever, All the President's Men, and The Conversation. Tentative events for this year's Maestro of the Moment series will also include a Master’s Tea, film screenings of David Shire’s work, and composition workshops. |
