Member of the research team at the Department of Psychiatry in the Program for Recovery and Community Health.
Role:
I provide a variety of services in the program as needed, focusing largely on coordinating recruitment for some of our studies and projects.
Professional Interests:
My background is in Community Health Education. I have worked in designing programs for health agencies in various settings within Connecticut and other states. The role I have played most often in the health field as a consultant. Priority issues for me have been public health issues, teen pregnancy, women’s issues in general and HIV/AIDS. I have spent twenty years teaching at the University level. Examples of courses that I have taught are: Introduction to Public Health, Organizations in Health, Group Process for Health Professions, Human Diseases, Foundation of Health Education, Patient Education, and Health Services Administration. Of unique interest, has been my involvement in the field of gaming and simulation. I designed, developed and evaluated a gaming / simulation as a communication tool for education on teen pregnancy. I spent three years designing it and then had it developed into a workable prototype that sold to ten agencies around the country that could be used for educational purposes. Currently, I am in the process of finding the necessary resources to develop a gaming / simulation on stigma and mental illness. One type of role I have played is as a developer and presenter of health-related topics at international and national conventions. Topics have ranged form international health issues to holistic health, both theory and practice.
Personal Interests:
I enjoy the scenery in New Haven and enjoy walking around the town for exercise and aesthetic reasons. Drawing is one of my favorite pastimes.
