Appointments and promotions to associate professor on term in all divisions require approval by the appropriate divisional Tenure Appointments and Promotions Committee. A Term Appointments Committee, appointed by the President and chaired either by the Dean of Yale College or the Dean of the Graduate School, approves promotions to associate professor for those members of the non-tenured ladder faculty who remain governed by the appointments procedures in place before July 1, 2007.

The original text dates from the

version of the Faculty Handbook.
This section was revised on
March 31, 2011, because the Term Appointments Committee ended its existence on June 30, 2010. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences Tenure and Appointments Policy Committee (FASTAP) tenure-track system (see http://www.yale.edu/gateways/fas_tenure_report.pdf) was implemented July 1, 2007, and as of June 30, 2010 all faculty remaining in the prior system had either been promoted at least to Associate Professor on Term or left Yale, rendering the Term Appointments Committee obsolete.
