IV.H   Appointments Procedures

General appointment procedures outlined in Section III.K apply to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. For all appointments to the ladder faculty, the text of advertisements and the composition of the search committee are approved in advance by the Dean of Yale College, the Graduate School, or the School of Engineering & Applied Science. Search committees may include members of the faculty from outside the department proposing the appointment. Advertisements and procedures for appointments to non-ladder faculty positions are reviewed by the appropriate dean and by the Provost's Office. Specific details and documents regarding the appointments process can be found on the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Web site. This document describes in detail the steps taken to ensure appointments of the highest quality through a process embedded in the principles of open access and diversity.
