About the Peer Counselors

The Queer Peers peer counselors are undergraduate students at Yale College who are trained in conjunction with Yale University Health Services. We come from a variety of religious and ethic backgrounds, with as diverse academic interests as can be found at Yale. All are committed to nurturing and supporting fellow members of the Yale community in issues regarding sexual and gender identity.

Queer Peers is an undergraduate student organization registered with the office of the Dean of Yale College, and the peer counselors are trained in conjunction with Mental Health at Yale University Health Services and the Office of LGBTQ Resources.

The Peer Counselors have developed a number of projects during the Spring 2010 semester, including an Ally Workshop, the booklet "One in Four: A Guide to LGBTQ Life at Yale", workshops on healthy sex, and two Coming Out panel discussions.

"Peer counseling is the use of active listening and problem-solving skills, along with knowledge about human growth and mental health, to counsel people who are our equals-- peers in age, status, and knowledge."
