What is
sketch comedy? It’s like improv, right?
Not
exactly. Ever seen Saturday Night Live? It’s kinda like that. We write all of our own sketches,
and then produce and direct them for our monthly performances. We also make
videos.
What are
auditions like?
Auditions
are low-stress and lots of fun. We'll ask you to read through and act out
sketches that we have written and performed. If you can read, you can
audition.
Do I need any
experience?
No!
Red Hot Poker is a diverse group of trained actors and awesome amateurs. If
you've never acted, you might be surprised how funny you really are!
What's the
time commitment?
We
meet twice a week to throw out sketch ideas and edit drafts. We also perform
about six full-length shows a year. Although tech week (the week of a show)
can get hectic, we tend to be pretty laidback.
Can
upperclassmen audition?
Yes!
Upperclassmen are welcome to audition. Several of our members joined during
their sophomore or junior years.
Will Calista go out to coffee with me?
Yes!
