Rudd Center annual report 2006

Forging coalitions

Overnutrition has eclipsed undernutrition as the greatest public health concern in many developing countries. Having a global presence in order to understand the broad factors affecting nutrition and obesity is a top priority of the Center. We are sought after by state officials, members of Congress, and international organizations to offer our expertise on issues of food policy. Kelly Brownell worked with the World Health Organization and a number of global health authorities around the world to address issues pertaining to both science and public policy. Brownell has made presentations at European Union meetings in Brussels and a WHO meeting in Oslo, where he played an instrumental role in establishing an international standard for advertising directed at children.

Many new collaborators joined in the Rudd Center’s work this year. They ranged from television producers and screenwriters to U.S. senators and food industry CEOs. Their interests span making schools healthier environments, to changing media depictions of obesity, to agricultural reform.
