While some academic centers shun the mass media, the Rudd Center sees the press as a valuable partner in our quest to change public opinion and policy. Our faculty members were featured 276 times in the press over the past year, and the venues that have featured our work have a total circulation of more than 200 million. We cultivate food and health writers who now use us as recurring sources [1 2] . We issue media advisories offering ourselves as sources on breaking food-related news. We author op-eds that drive the public debate in new and more thoughtful directions.
All of these efforts serve to build our brand as the authoritative source on food policy and weight stigma. We are regularly quoted in the kinds of outlets that traditionally seek out academic sources, such as major newspapers, television and radio stations, and in magazine such as Vogue, where Kelly Brownell commented on a controversial move in Madrid to ban runway models with BMIs lower than 18. The Rudd Center also is represented on the mega-popular Wikipedia, with entries on Kelly Brownell, the Center and weight stigma. Our presence there serves as a gateway to people who might not otherwise be familiar with our work.
