Yale Dominates Cornell to Cap Strong Parent's Weekend

Yale was fired up after a great showing on Saturday against Columbia. They looked to continue their streak of good play against a Cornell squad that had seen little success in Ivy League play. Yale quickly established possession in Cornell's end by poaching the ball after the kickoff. After nearly ten minutes of continuous pressure, scrumhalf Sam Power '12 chipped over the Cornell line into the arms of winger Matt Lacasse '10, who raced in for the opening try. After this try, the floodgates opened, and Yale scored 45 points in the opening half. Lacasse dotted down again, as well as fullback Ryan Vandersloot '11, flanker Phil Constantinou '11 and lock Tim Shriver '11. Captain Patrick Madden '10 led all scorers in the first half with two tries.

Yale continued to apply pressure in the second half, while working in many of their reserves. Wing Will Alexander '10, prop Mike Horrell '10, and Constantinou all had tries in the second half. Yale dominated in all phases of play, leading to an impressive final tally.

Final Score: Yale 60 - Cornell 3

Cornell's B side was somewhat undermanned, only able to provide 6 players for B side action. Yale spotted Cornell with a few of their players, playing 8 on 8 rugby for two ten minute periods. The boys played hard, unaccustomed to the amount of space available in short-sided play, nonetheless played hard and adjusted well. In the end, the all-Yale side claimed victory with a 20-10 margin.

Final Score: Yale 20 - Cornell (+ Yale) 10
