Welcome to Yale University
and the City of New Haven

Campus safety at Yale is achieved by community partnerships practicing a shared responsibility approach to safety.  The university police, security programs and the office of security awareness work in concert to provide helpful information, services and well-trained staff to help community members studying, working, living and visiting the university to stay safe.

Ensuring your own safety by participating in our partnerships is the most proactive way to stay safe.  Our community members can accomplish this by following simple, but important guidelines.  The most important tip to remember is not to walk alone at night.  Traveling in groups is a great way to ensure your safety.  We also have several services to help you move about campus safely.   Security Programs operates the 2-WALK service.  This is a 24 hour companion walking service.  Beyond the daily shuttle that is available through Parking and Transit, there is the Minibus which transports community members at night on and off campus.

If you have any questions about personal safety, or witness suspicious activity, please call the Yale University Police who are happy to answer questions.  Security Programs administers our access control systems and is available to check on physical security issues.  Our Office of Security Awareness offers sessions on how to stay safe, has an informative website, and has several helpful publications.

When you are on campus please enjoy all of the resources Yale University has to offer to help community members stay safe.
