President
Elizabeth Winograd-Cort is a fifth year graduate student excited to serve as the President of Yale's SEA Student Chapter. In the lab, she researches the mechanisms of plant disease resistance in the Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology Department. Outside the lab, she is interested in learning about and influencing how science impacts the world and how the politics and cultures of the world affect science. She graduated from Brown University with a AB in Biology and German Studies.

Vice-President
Julia Brown is currently serving as YSD's Vice President and is a co-director of Science in the News. She is a fifth year graduate student in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. In the lab, Julia studies the evolutionary genetics of worldwide populations of Aedes aegypti, the dengue and yellow fever mosquito. Outside of the lab, she is interested in learning about the interactions between scientists and policymakers, and in disseminating science to those outside the field. Julia graduated from Vanderbilt University with a B.S. in Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology.
Secretary
Katherine (Mahala) Burn, YSD Secretary, is a fifth year graduate student in the Department of Cell Biology, studying the effect of starvation on the developing fruit fly egg. She is eager to facilitate public excitement and empowerment by science outreach and education. In 2007, she graduated from Mary Baldwin College with an Honors B.S. in Biology.

Science in the News Co-Directors:
Griselda Zuccarino-Catania is a sixth year graduate student in the Immunobiology department, investigating functions for distinct subsets of memory B cells. She helped start the Yale Student Chapter of SEA and has previously served as president for two years and as the head of Public Relations. This year she will serve as the co-director of Science in the News. She is interested in communication between scientists and the public. Griselda received her B.S. in Biotechnology from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

Jessica (Jessie) McDonald is a sixth year Immunobiology Ph.D. student researching the mechanism of somatic hypermutation in B cells. An alumna of Haverford College, where she majored in English literature as well as molecular biology, Jessie is particularly concerned with how science journalism informs science policy and ways in which communication can serve as a catalyst for action.
Outreach Coordinator
Keerthi Shetty is a third year Ph.D. student in Immunobiology studying RAG1 and RAG2 interactions with recombination centers during V(D)J recombination in Dr. David Schatz's lab. She is YSD's Education Outreach Coordinator. She is interested in making science interesting and accessible to the general public, especially to high school students. She graduated from Princeton University with an A.B. in Molecular Biology.
