2010-2011 Officers:
President
Elizabeth Winograd-Cort is a fifth year graduate student excited to serve as the President of Yale's SEA Student Chapter. In the lab, she researches the mechanisms of plant disease resistance in the Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology Department. Outside the lab, she is interested in learning about and influencing how science impacts the world and how the politics and cultures of the world affect science. She graduated from Brown University with a AB in Biology and German Studies.

Vice-President
Julia Brown is currently serving as Yale SEA's Vice President. She is a fourth year graduate student in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. In the lab, Julia studies the evolutionary genetics of worldwide populations of Aedes aegypti, the dengue and yellow fever mosquito. Outside of the lab, she is interested in learning about the interactions between scientists and policymakers, and in disseminating science to those outside the field. Julia graduated from Vanderbilt University with a B.S. in Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology.
Secretary
Katherine (Mahala) Burn is currently the Sender of SEA Salutations, also known as the Secretary of Yale's SEA Student Chapter. She is a fourth year graduate student in the Department of Cell Biology, studying the effect of starvation on the directional movement of protein in the developing fruit fly egg. Outside the lab, Mahala is interested in all kids of things from cooking to kickboxing, and is eager to facilitate public excitement and empowerment by way of the knowledge of science. In 2007, she graduated from Mary Baldwin College with an Honors B.S. in Biology.
Treasurer & Recycling Coordinator
Will Khoury-Hanold a first year Ph.D. student in Immunobiology.
I love three things: scientists, engineers and America. Ergo I find myself also loving SEA and its dedicated members! We are passionate about such hot topics as encouraging laboratory recycling, fostering discussions with the community regarding current scientific issues and taking trips to D.C. to learn about how scientists are desperately needed in the political arena. I am pretty sure that last one is a good way to solve most of the world's problems. Come on everybody, quit being so naive. Now is the time to activate and become an effector of change!

Public Relations
Griselda Zuccarino-Catania is a fifth year graduate student in the Immunobiology department, investigating functions for distinct subsets of memory B cells. She helped start the Yale Student Chapter of SEA and has previously served as president for two years and as the head of Public Relations. This year she will again serve as the Public Relations officer, promoting the chapter and organizing exciting activities. She is interested in communication between scientists and the public. Griselda received her B.S. in Biotechnology from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
Media and Communications
Jessica (Jessie) McDonald is a fifth year Immunobiology Ph.D. student researching the mechanism of somatic hypermutation in B cells. An alumna of Haverford College, where she majored in English literature as well as molecular biology, Jessie is particularly concerned with how science journalism informs science policy and ways in which communication can serve as a catalyst for action.
Outreach Coordinator
Keerthi Shetty is a second year Ph.D. student in Immunobiology studying the function of RAG2-H3K4me3 interactions in regulating histone modifications and gene expression in Dr. David Schatz's lab. She is serving as Yale SEA's Outreach Coordinator. She is interested in making science interesting and accessible to the general public. She graduated from Princeton University with a B.A. in Molecular Biology.
SEA Chapter Advisory Board (SEA CAB) Liason
Jedidah Isler is a fourth year student in Astronomy. She studies a specific subset of Active Galactic Nuclei called blazars. These exotic objects offer unique insight into the physical phenomena behind their extremely energetic relativistic jets, which happen to be pointed along our line of sight. Jedidah uses optical spectroscopy of these sources as a metric to study their emission mechanisms. Outside of school, she enjoys hiking, running and traveling. This is her first year serving as an officer in the Yale SEA chapter, where she is currently the Chapter Advisory Board (CAB) representative.
