Steve Rhee, PhD Candidate, School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, Yale University

Steve Rhee - a Ph.D. candidate at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies - has been involved in Indonesia in a variety of ways since 1996. He has carried out collaborative research with the Center for International Forestry Research, conducted policy analysis for the Wildlife Conservation Society, and worked as a Program Advisor for CARE. His theoretical interests include political ecology, environmental anthropology, and the sociology of knowledge. He was also awarded an EPA STAR FELLOWSHIP for his research addressing the ways in which forestry institutions in Indonesia (government, international donors, NGOs, communities) articulate and justify priorities and practices related to forest dependent communities' rights and access to forest resources, which have historically been the domain of the state.
