All degree candidates, December as well as May, must fill out a Commencement response form by May 1. This form is required whether or not one is planning to attend the GSAS Commencement Diploma ceremony. The form is available only online, and the deadline for submission is May 1. Graduate School Convocation, Hall of Graduate Studies (HGS) courtyard tent, 320 York Street.

This ceremony, presided over by Dean Tom Pollard, features the awarding of student prizes and graduate faculty mentor awards. The Convocation speaker will be a distinguished Yale faculty member and/or a Graduate School alumnus or alumna. All degree candidates and their guests are encouraged to attend. No tickets are needed, and academic regalia is not required.

      Presentation of diplomas in Woolsey Hall, corner of Prospect and College Streets.
 
Diplomas for the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Philosophy, Master of Arts,* Master of Science, and Master of Engineering are awarded by the Dean and faculty representatives from each department or program.
 
All degree candidates must fill out Commencement attendance forms indicating whether or not they will attend the diploma ceremony. The attendance form is available only online and may be accessed here. The deadline for submission of attendance forms is May 1. Degree candidates who do not respond by this date may not be able to be included in the diploma ceremony, or may not be able to sit with their departments.
 
Degree candidates will sit in the orchestra section by department or degree program and will be called to the stage individually to receive a diploma from the Dean. Guests may find seats on the sides and in the balconies. No tickets are required either for degree candidates or guests. The handicapped-accessible entrance to Woolsey Hall is via Beinecke Plaza.
 
*Students receiving master's degrees from the Yale MacMillan Center for International & Area Studies and the Economic Growth Center receive their diplomas in a ceremony held at Luce Hall, 34 Hillhouse Avenue. Included are master's candidates in African Studies, East Asian Studies, International & Development Economics, International Relations, and European and Russian Studies. A complimentary luncheon and reception for YCIAS graduates and guests immediately follows in Luce Hall.
 
Professional photographs will be taken of each student receiving a diploma, at both the Woolsey Hall and Luce Hall diploma ceremonies. Commencement Photos, a commercial service, will mail degree candidates information about purchasing their photos. Candidates may also contact Commencement Photos directly to inquire.

The diploma ceremony for the School of Architecture will be

held in the Margaret and Angus Wurtele Sculpture Garden at the Yale University Art Gallery, 1111 Chapel Street, immediately following the Old Campus ceremony. Lunch in the Margaret and Angus Wurtele Scuplture Garden follows the diploma ceremony. No tickets are required.

In case of rain, the diploma ceremony will be held in the Robert L. McNeil Lecture Hall of the Yale University Art Gallery, 1111 Chapel Street, and lunch will be served in the gallery of Paul Rudolph Hall, 180 York Street.

  Noon       Following the Old Campus ceremony, graduates process to the Graphic Design Atrium, School of Art, Holcombe T. A reception for graduates and their families follows the diploma ceremony in the main hallway of Green Hall. The School of Art is located at 1156 Chapel Street.

The diploma ceremony will be held in Caulkins Courtyard, 135 Prospect Street. No tickets are required.

Professional photographs will be taken of each student receiving a diploma. Commencement Photos, a commercial service, will send degree candidates information about purchasing their photos. Candidates may also contact  Commencement Photos directly to inquire.

An optional box lunch will be available following the ceremony. Reservations will be accepted beginning in late April; guests should make arrangements through their graduating friend or relative.

In case of severe weather, the diploma ceremony will be moved to Woolsey Hall (corner of Grove & College Streets) and will begin at approximately 3:00 pm.

University Commencement exercises, Old Campus.

Guests who do not wish to attend the University ceremony on Old Campus may view the ceremony via simulcast in Harkness Auditorium, starting at 10:00 am.

  12:30 pm
     

The School of Medicine diploma ceremony will begin at 12:30 pm at Amistad Park, located at the corner of Cedar Street and Washington Street.

In the event of extremely severe weather, the diploma ceremony will move to Mary S. Harkness Auditorium, but with very limited access (3 tickets per graduate, including graduate). Mary S. Harkness Auditorium is located in the Sterling Hall of Medicine, 333 Cedar Street. All other guests are invited to watch the ceremony via simulcast either in Fitkin auditorium, 330 Cedar Street, or the Anylan Center (TAC) auditorium, 310 Cedar Street.

  1:45 pm


    Following the ceremony, at approximately 1:45 pm, there will be a reception in Edward S. Harkness Hall for the graduates, their family and friends. Tickets are required for both the diploma ceremony and reception, with each degree candidate receiving a total of eight free tickets (one for the candidate plus seven for guests).

Ticket distribution, beginning in late April, will be coordinated between students and the School of Medicine's Office of Student Affairs. Guests should not contact the School of Medicine directly for tickets; rather, they should make arrangements through the graduate. Questions about the School of Medicine Commencement activities may be referred to the School of Medicine's Office of Student Affairs, 203 785-2644.

        On Sunday, May 20, the School of Music will celebrate the musical accomplishments of the Class of 2012 with a free Commencement concert in Morse Recital Hall in Sprague Hall, corner of College and Wall Streets. The concert begins at 4:00 pm.

YSPH Graduation Ceremony will be held at Battell Chapel, located on the corner of Elm and College Streets. The ceremony is open to all, and there is no limit on the number of guests. Tickets are not required.

Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker, founder and CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, will be the School of Public Health's Commencement speaker. Regarded as the leader of the global breast cancer movement, Nancy Brinker's journey began with a simple promise to her sister, Susan G. Komen, to do everything possible to end breast cancer. In 2009 President Obama honored Ms. Brinker with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, for her work. The same year she was named Goodwill Ambassador for Cancer Control for the U.N.'s World Health Organization, where she continues her mission to put cancer control at the top of the world health agenda. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
