2012–2013 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Required only if necessary for acceptance to a degree or certificate-granting program. Read more about this here. Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

New this year for student and parent tax filers: Your taxable income must be verified by using the FAFSA's IRS Data Retrieval Tool or by comparing it to an IRS tax transcript. If you filed your federal tax return electronically at least two weeks prior to today or submitted your paper returns 6-8 weeks prior to today, you may be eligible to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. We strongly encourage you to use this tool which allows both the parent and student to provide consent to the IRS to upload data from your federal tax returns at the time you complete your FAFSA. If you have not completed your tax return yet, you will not be able to use Data Retrieval until you do. However, you can complete the FAFSA using estimates and go back later to complete the Data Retrieval.

You will not be able to use the IRS Data Retrieval Process and must submit an IRS Tax Transcript if any of the following applies:

  • You are married but filed separate returns for the 2011 tax year
  • Filed an amended 2011 tax return
  • Had a change in marital status after the end of the tax year on December 31, 2011

To request an IRS transcript go to: www.irs.gov and click "Order a Tax Return or Account Transcript".

Signed copies of 2011 tax returns and W-2 form(s) for you, your parents, and your spouse.

Required only if necessary for acceptance to a degree or certificate-granting program. Read more about this here. Mail directly to Student Financial Services.
