Visa Status Definition and Limitations of Visa Status
B Status including B-1, B-2, WB and WT

B-1: visitor for business
B-2: visitor for pleasure
WB: visa waiver for business
WT: visa waiver for pleasure

Individuals holding B status may be reimbursed for expenses and receive an honorarium if the academic activity in which the B visitor is engaged lasts no longer than nine (9) days and the visitor has not accepted payment of expenses and/or honorarium from more than five (5) U.S. institutions or organizations in the previous six months.

If any of these conditions is exceeded, the individual holding B-2 or WT status may NOT receive any honorarium and/or be reimbursed for any expenses.

If the individual holds B visitor status (B-1 and WB only) and exceeds the nine day-five visit- six month rule, the visitor may be reimbursed for expenses for a period of time not to exceed the limit of his or her lawful B-1 or WB status, but may not be paid an honorarium.
