Visa Status Definition and Limitations of Visa Status
F-1 Student Status Under Yale Sponsorship

F-1 student status permits full-time study for the duration of a specified academic program at a specified institution. Part-time work in on-campus jobs (maximum of 20 hours per week when school is in session and full time during break periods) is allowable. A student may also work in a "practical training" job directly related to the student's field of study for 12 months during or after the completion of his or her studies, but only with prior authorization from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
