Construction is started on Connecticut Hall, now the oldest building in New Haven and a National Historic Landmark. Starting from a single structure that served all of Yale’s needs, the University has grown to a vast complex of over 260 buildings with over 13 million square feet of classrooms, laboratories, studios and performance space, libraries, housing, offices, and athletic facilities. Connecticut Hall in 1906, after a major renovation restored the original gambrel roof.
