Bradley International Airport

(BDL): Windsor Locks (Hartford), CT (52 Miles)

Bradley International Airport is marketed as the "no hassle" alternative to the airports in the big cities. It is well served with airlines and is reasonably easy to access from New Haven.

John F. Kennedy Airport

(JFK): Jamaica, NY (80 miles)

JFK is the largest and most heavily used airport locally, and it can become exceptionally busy. If you plan to fly at a popular time, particularly at the start of national holidays, you will need extra time to check in. Be aware that because of the volume of people using JFK, Immigration controls can be troublesome.

How to get to JFK

LaGuardia Airport

(LGA): Flushing, NY (73 Miles)

The smallest of New York’s airports, it has a very mixed reputation. Travelers tend to say that it’s fairly quiet and easy to get through, which is a good thing because you don’t want to be stuck there for too long.

Newark Airport

(EWR): Newark, NJ (93 Miles)

Smaller than JFK, this is a good alternative if you can find an airline using this airport, although again peak holiday travel periods are busy and you should allow extra time.

Boston Logan International Airport

(BOS): Boston, MA (140 miles)

Opinion is divided on Logan, but it has been undergoing renovations. Although some people still consider it sprawling and difficult to navigate, others consider it their favorite airport in the U.S. Make sure you work out which terminal you need though.

How to get to Logan

  • Amtrak to Boston's South Station. At South Station, connect to Logan by way of the MBTA Silver Line.
    Amtrak: 1-800-USA-RAIL (872-7245)
