IMPORTANT CHANGE TO YOUR ORBITZ FOR BUSINESS ACCOUNT!

You may have noticed a recent change to your Orbitz for Business account. Your yale.edu email address is now the exclusive login for Yale’s Orbitz for Business site, Orbitzforbusiness.com.

Leisure travelers may continue to use the general customer site, Orbitz.com. The Orbitz for Business site is used only for Yale business travel bookings. Reservations will not be erroneously placed on the university business site, and vice versa, as was happening when employees could toggle back and forth between the sites utilizing the same yale.edu address as their single log-on.

As always, if you should have any questions, please call Travel Services at 2-9962, or email us at travel@yale.edu

Thank you for your support!

Traveling on a U.S. Government grant? Tips on the Fly America Act

Please advise Orbitz for Business that you are subject to the Fly America Act when booking reservations that are funded by the U.S. Government. The Fly America Act permits travel on foreign code share flights provided the ticket shows the U.S. carrier’s code share number. Example: Lufthansa operated flight LH 417, sold as UA 8833. Lufthansa has offered Yale University a 15% discount on fares booked in F, C, & Y classes; and an 18%discount on fares booked in B, H, & M classes. All Yale discounts have been loaded into Orbitz for Business. Further information is provided below:

Connecticut Sales Tax Exemptions on Purchases of Meals and Lodging

Certain lodging expenses are exempt from Connecticut sales tax provided the following conditions are met:

  • The retailer directly charges the University for the meals or lodging;
  • The University directly pays the retailer with a University check or a credit card issued in the University’s name; and
  • The University is not reimbursed, in whole or in part, by donation or otherwise, for its payment for the meals or lodging by those consuming the meals or lodging.

For complete instructions on tax exemptions and a list of Connecticut business establishments that have tax exemptions on file, please refer to the Yale Tax Department web site: http://www.yale.edu/tax/salesanduse.html

When your travel plans call for hotel accommodations in New York , please contact the Yale’s Tax Department (2-5530) to obtain a tax-exempt certificate. Simply provide the name and address of the hotel that you are staying at and the Tax Department will provide you a vendor-specific tax exempt certificate to give the hotel. The hotel charge must be paid for by University funds, preferably a Yale P-card, to be eligible for the tax exemption.
