Shamit Saggar divides his time between academia and active leadership of public institutions. He has been Professor of Political Science at the University of Sussex since 2004, was until recently Chairman of the Legal Complaints Service of the Law Society, and has recently joined the Board of the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Between 2001 and 2003 he served as the Senior Policy Advisor of the Prime Minister's Strategy Unit in the Cabinet Office. Saggar also held adjunct and advisory appointments with Demos, the Institute for Public Policy Research, Policy Network and the Fabians. He has published five books; his latest book, Pariah Politics: Understanding Western Radical Islamism and What Should be Done, was published in 2011 by Oxford.
