Yale College Research Fellowships

The Office of Fellowship Programs administers a number of competitions for Yale College research fellowships. These fellowships are intended for students who are pursuing their own self-directed, academic research agenda.

Important points to note:

• These fellowships are often awarded to juniors who are researching a topic for their senior essay; however, freshmen and sophomores may also be eligible to apply.

• Supervision of the research by a Yale faculty member, or other expert in the field, may be a required part of the proposal.

• Students who are not conducting their own research and instead are conducting research as part of an organization’s or other individual’s agenda are not eligible to apply. These students should instead consider Yale College fellowships for internships, projects, and study.

These competitive fellowships are typically awarded for summer research; however, funding for other time periods may also be available. Note that awards to be used during term time require application in the preceding spring. Funding opportunities exist for both domestic and international activities.

Not all fellowships support all activities, please read the description of each individual fellowship carefully as eligibility and restrictions will vary.
