Morse Spaces!

DINING HALL

The Morse Dining hall exhibits approximately 40-feet floor-to-ceiling windows that bathe the dining room in light during the daytime. Morsels can dine while viewing the Morse courtyard and its neighbor building, the Hall of Graduate Studies. At night, the light glowing from the dining hall windows illuminates the courtyard and outdoor dining patio which boast an adjacent, quietly babbling water feature. Morsels will also be able to dine while listening to music played on our very own Steinway & Sons Grand Piano. Another feature of the Morse Dining Hall includes a lively, 20-feet fiber mural by artist Janet Kuemmerlein. This sprawling, inviting dining hall is staffed by some of the most jovial people you'll meet. A meal in the Morse Dining Hall is truly a unique and delectable experience.

FELLOW'S LOUNGE

Situated above the dining hall, the Fellows Lounge is an intimate dining room for small conferences, dinners, and meetings. Members of the Morse community are free to reserve the lounge for dinner, and are always invited to use the comfortable chairs and couches as a quite study or meeting space. Portraits of Morse's former Masters, original custom light fixtures, and a small kitchen complete the space.

******************************************************************************

GUARDHOUSE

Since Morse's new renovations, the Guardhouse has been transformed from a small multipurpose room into a study space and seminar room. It's location at the main entry into Morse makes it ideal for coming together with other Yalies from other colleges to study, lecture, or just meet.

COMMON ROOM

A space for students of the college to hold meetings, study, or simply relax, the Common Room is one of the most renovated spaces in Morse. Located across from the dining hall, the Common Room is always bustling with students. You’ll see the whole spectrum of activities here: students working on problem sets, playing a Mozart concerto on the Grand piano, debating foreign policy, or having a meal with a friend. With the couches and comfortable seating, ample desk area, as well as the newly installed skylights, the Common Room is a warm and welcoming place, the perfect blend of fun and function.

DANCE STUDIO

From modern dance to ballroom to classical Indian bharatanatyam, the Crescent Underground Dance and Aerobics Studio was designed with all types of dance in mind.  This beautiful space has been fondly dubbed "the fish bowl" due to a wall of windows which allows passersby to glimpse into the dance practice world.  Sky lights allow natural light to stream into the studio, which, when paired with the 15-foot tall mirrors and windows, makes for a light and open space.  Of course, it couldn't be in Morse or Stiles if it didn't have a few weird angles, including sloped walls and triangular windows!

******************************************************************************

CRESCENT UNDERGROUND THEATRE

The Crescent Underground theater is the second biggest available undergraduate non-Yale Dramatic Association space available. With adjustable seating, the theater can be transformed into various configurations, and has served as a performing space for various cultural shows, dance performances, dramatic plays, and musicals. The theater's backstage includes two spacious dressing rooms, a bathroom and enough space for storing set pieces. Other perks of the Crescent Underground theater include the expansive lighting grid and nearby practice rooms.

******************************************************************************

GAME ROOM

The Game Room, located in the basement between entries G and H, contains everything necessary to keep students entertained.  Students come here to socialize and de-stress, finding many fun activities: table tennis, billiards, and air hockey are down there in addition to a large TV viewing area to catch shows or sporting events on TV.  Conveniently located next to the Morsel, the Game Room is a perfect socializing hub that functions as an informal way to further foster a fantastic Morse community.

MORSEL
When midnight cravings hit there is no better place to go than the Morsel.  Our student run buttery has every variety of scrumptious greasy food a paper-plagued student could desire.  The energetic atmosphere and opportunity for procrastination is the perfect pick-me-up.  The Morsel has a menu that is always changing to reflect the creativity of Morse hosting a variety of student created dishes including the McMorsel and the Menzel, the Morse Wenzel.  Get to know your fellow morsels you would not otherwise have met who, like you, were drawn in by the flashing neon "Morsel" sign and the delectable smell of sizzling bacon.

******************************************************************************

MUSIC ROOMS

One of the most impressive features of the new basement is the cluster of music rooms located between the gym and the theater. Three practice rooms, each of which has either an upright or a baby grand piano, and a large music room make up the complex. The large music room is of special note; in addition to having an upright piano, the room is acoustically configured to make it ideal for group rehearsals and has direct access to the backstage of the Crescent Theater.

******************************************************************************

GYM

Morse and Stile’s newly renovated gym is arguably the best residential college gym on Yale’s campus. With treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, punching bags, and weight machines all readily available, students never have to leave the walls of the college to get in a full workout. The gym is also equipped with four HD televisions for those who desire entertainment while working up a sweat. The gym is full of exercising Morsels and Stilesians around the clock, making it a great place to connect with the other members of the college.

MORSE LIBRARY

At any point of the day, you'll find the Morse Library (the largest residential college library on campus) a perfect environment for studying. In this relaxing, two-storied, air-conditioned Mecca of sustained study periods, you'll find couches, tables, comfy, executive chairs, and individual kiosks where you can work, read, or listen to music. If you need to peel your eyes away from your Constitutional Law textbook, Morsels are provided numerous publications like the New York Post, the Economist, Time, and, of course, People magazine.

ERICKA’S ROOM

Come and chill in Ericka's room! Red bean leather seating, swing out television, sophisticated chess table, and chalk full of board games; what more could you want? It's an in-front-of-the-fireplace-during-the-winter-drinking-hot-cocoa kind of cozy.

******************************************************************************

FABRIC ARTS STUDIO

When the pace of Yale seems overwhelming, slip down to the Fabric Arts Studio.  With over 10 looms of varying sizes and a mind-boggling selection of yarns and threads, no project is beyond your reach.  Take a break from the endless cycles of papers and midterms to unleash your creativity and try your hand at something new.  You must sign up to take an introductory class before you can operate the looms, so come down to the Master’s Office to find out how you can get involved!

******************************************************************************

COMPUTER CLUSTER

With brand new PCs, Macs and a printing station, the Crescent Underground computer cluster offers students everything they need to be productive. Despite its name, the computer cluster is anything but a cluster: the room is large, spacious, and well-lit. In addition, the room offers natural light by way of the newly installed skylights (a feature of many rooms in the newly-renovated Morse), so no one has to feel like they need to sacrifice sunshine for work!

******************************************************************************

STUDENT KITCHEN

When the Dining Hall food just doesn’t seem to hit the spot, Morsels can reserve the Student Kitchen and make their own delicious morsels. Fully equipped with everything needed to make a delicious meal, the Student Kitchen makes it easy to be your own chef for a day. The Kitchen is also spacious enough to accommodate groups, because there’s no better way to eat food than with friends.  To reserve the student kitchen, contact Chris Bakes at christopher.bakes@yale.edu.

******************************************************************************

ART GALLERY

Looking for a sophisticated venue for your next art showcase?  Look no further than the Morse Art Gallery.  The well-lit, artfully angular room is furnished with a unique collection of cozy couches and chairs, while still providing enough open floor space to admire the artwork on its walls.  Come to the Art Gallery to check out your fellow Morsels’ exhibits, to attend a small event, or even just to study in this peaceful location!

******************************************************************************

RECORDING STUDIO

The Crescent Underground Recording Studio is a state-of-the-art music recording facility that allows individuals and groups to create multi-track sound recordings. The space includes a control room with sophisticated mixing equipment and software, and an acoustically appropriate recording room with high-quality microphones.
