May 2010: Upgrades to YaleInfo
On May 4th the YaleInfo portal team released a new version of the portal with a major user interface enhancement, and two behind-the-scenes features that will help the portal team better understand and serve our users:
- A new "Add a Tab" capability, where pre-made tabs can be easily added by the user to their exiting layout. This makes it possible to add a whole pre-made page. For example, you can quickly add tabs that show you what the student, staff, or faculty views of the portal look like, as the news and tool link different in the various views of the portal.
- The portal now uses Google Analytics, which will help the portal team to:
- Identify popular features of the portal
- Better understand how the portal is used
- Give more reliable data on what browsers and screen sizes are in use at Yale
- Google Analytics give us aggregate and average data on how large numbers of users interact with the portal. It does not track any individual's use of the portal, so your privacy is assured.
- We have enabled Active Directory integration, thus improving our ability to target content to specific users groups managed in AD repositories. In plainer English, this means that in the future the portal will be better able to distinguish between different groups of users - for example, between medical area faculty and central campus faculty.
