
Music 390b: Individual or Collaborative Final Project
Guidelines
I. Plan your Individual or Collaborative Final Project
Option A - Individual Final Project: You may choose the general aesthetic and conceptual approaches for your Individual
Final Project. Select from one of the following genre types:
- A musical composition 8:00 or more minutes in length.
- A musical video 8:00 or more minutes in length.
- A film or video with a musical score, also 8:00 or more minutes in length.
- An interactive MAX/MSP/Jitter environment, that takes between 8:00 or more minutes to experience.
- Design your own genre type of 8:00 or more minutes in length.
- Two of the above. Each must be 4:00 or more minutes in length.
Option B - Collaborative Final Project: You may choose the general aesthetic and conceptual approaches for your Collaborative
Final Project. You may work with one OR two other people. Select from one of the following genre types:
- A musical composition 8:00 or more minutes in length.
- A musical video 8:00 or more minutes in length.
- A film or video with a musical score, also 8:00 or more minutes in length.
- An interactive MAX/MSP/Jitter environment, that takes between 8:00 or more minutes to experience.
- Design your own genre type of 8:00 or more minutes in length.
- Two of the above. Each must be 4:00 or more minutes in length.
Option C - Individual AND Collaborative Final Projects: You may choose to undertake two Final Projects, one Individual and one
Collaborative, each of your own aesthetic and conceptual design and shorter in length. Select from two of the following genre types:
- A musical composition 4:00 or more minutes in length.
- A musical video 4:00 or more minutes in length.
- A film or video with a musical score, also 4:00 or more minutes in length.
- An interactive MAX/MSP/Jitter environment, that takes between 4:00 or more minutes to experience.
- Design your own genre type of 4:00 or more minutes in length.
II. Work on your Individual or Collaborative Final Project in class/lab as designated.

III. Specific Requirements for the Individual or Collaborative Final Project
- Use at least two of the following software programs.
- Cubase 4.0
- Reason 4.0
- Recycle 2.1
- radiaL OSX
- Metasynth Pro 4.0
- FinalCut Pro 6.0
- MaxMspJitter 4.6
- Another program pre-aproved by Dr. A
- Use the following source clips and data types.
- Required use of "original" audio data
- Optional use of "original" MIDI data
- Optional use of "plundered" audio and MIDI data
- Optional use of "original" image/video data
- Optional use of "plundered" image/video data
- Time requirement: 8:00 or more minutes in length
IV. Submit your Individual or Collaborative Final Project Proposal on Tuesday, Mar. 4th.
V. Present your Individual or Collaborative Final Project Work-In-Progress Report on your assigned date.
Your presentation must include:
- An overview of your aesthetic and conceptual approaches to your Individual or Collaborative Final Project.
- A summary of your progress working on your Individual or Collaborative Final Project.
- A listening (audio CD) or viewing (DVD) of clips from your Individual or Collaborative Final Project.
VI. Present your finished Individual or Collaborative Final Project on Friday, Apr. 25th at the Mini-Marathon.
Your presentation must include:
- An overview of your finalized aesthetic and conceptual approaches to your Individual or Collaborative Final Project.
- A summary of your entire process working on your Individual or Collaborative Final Project.
- A listening (audio CD) or viewing (DVD) of your Individual or Collaborative Final Project.
VII. Submit your finished Individual or Collaborative Final Project Materials on Friday, Apr. 25th.
Your final submission of materials must include:
- A final essay describing your finished Individual Final Project results included on your data CD-R or DVD-R.
- A data CD-R or DVD-R with ALL of your various project materials archived on it, and, that's fully functional!
- Either an ACC compressed QuickTime .mov file of your audio soundtrack, or, an ACC compressed QuickTime .mov file of your music video that is resized to 320x240 pixels, and included on your data archive CD-R or DVD-R.
- The final, produced audio CD or DVD of your Individual or Collaborative Final Project.
- Submit to Dr. A on Friday, April 25th.
