Rules
Participation:
- The YBPS Marketing Case Competition is open only to Yale undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, post-doctoral fellows, medical residents, interns, and fellows.
- The Yale Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Society reserves the sole right to disqualify participants based on violations of the Rules.
- Teams must register all members by 6pm November 6th. We will confirm team rosters by November 9th.
- Questions, Case, and Judging Guidelines will be emailed to all registered participants at 9am on November 13th.
- Failure to deliver presentations to Corey Probst (corey.probst@yale.edu) by 9AM on Nov 20th will result in disqualification of the team. No exceptions.
- Although the internet is fair game, do not ask the case writers, judges, sponsor employees, or YBPS leaders for help once the case is distributed. The presentation should represent registered team members’ work only. All non-case sources should be cited in a brief slide at the end, not doing so may harm your score.
- Disqualified participants: All current employees of Boehringer Ingelheim, Saul Ewing LLP, Taro Pharmaceuticals, McKinsey, and Vion Pharmaceuticals.
- Disqualified participants: all YBPS leaders (new position applicants are the exception)
Teams:
- Teams must consist of 2-5 individuals.
- There must be 1 SOM student per team, and not more than 1. Joint degree SOM students do qualify as SOM students, but not HMP students. Exceptions may be granted on a case by case basis, dependent on SOM interest.
- One undergrad maximum per team – undergrads must submit brief statement of interest and a CV or resume to corey.probst@yale.edu for approval by Nov 6th.
- Individuals found in violation of the YBPS Marketing Case Competition Rules will automatically be disqualified, along with the team of which they are a part.
Case:
- The case will be emailed to all participating individuals in pdf format. Each team may work on the case until their presentation appointment on Friday, November 20th.
- Once the case has been distributed, all case-related questions should be emailed to Corey Probst (corey.probst@yale.edu). The case-writing team will address all questions and respond to the team and/or all of the teams in an appropriate manner.
- Case recommendations may be composed of up to 10 slides in length, excluding the cover page. Five extra slides may be prepared to help answer any questions the judges pose, although they may not be discussed during the initial presentation.
- Case recommendations must be prepared in Microsoft PowerPoint format and must be emailed to Corey Probst (corey.probst@yale.edu) 9AM on Friday, November 20th.
- Case recommendations will be run on a PC so it is highly recommended that the case recommendations are prepared on a PC to avoid any conversion issues.
- Not all team members need to be present on November 20th, but there must be at least 2 team members presenting.
Competition:
- Participants will have a schedule of their presentation times, randomly assigned, no later than NOON on November 19th. The times will be between noon and 6PM on November 20th.
- Please arrive at Steinbach lounge ahead of your scheduled time, as you run the risk of being bumped or disqualified if you are late.
- Participating teams will have 10 minutes to make their case recommendation to the judges, followed by Q&A at the judges’ discretion. Q&A will last no longer than 10 minutes.
- The judges are unable to consider any other submission besides the case recommendation in Microsoft PowerPoint format.
- The dress code for the competition is business formal.
Good Luck!
