Rose Rita began her career at Yale in 1991 as the first administrative assistant for the Yale Institute for Biospheric Studies (YIBS), which was created that same year.  After serving YIBS for two years, she transferred to the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies serving as their administrative assistant for development and alumni affairs.  After completing a degree in business administration at Albertus Magnus College, she assumed the position of the YIBS Administrator under the directorship of Elisabeth Vrba, Professor of Geology & Geophysics.  Rose Rita continued in this role under the directorships of Karl K. Turekian, Sterling Professor of Geology & Geophysics, and Derek E.G. Briggs, Director of the Peabody Museum of Natural History and Frederick W. Beinecke Professor of Geology & Geophysics.  She was appointed the assistant director of YIBS in the spring of 2008 by the current YIBS Director, Jeffrey J. Park, Professor of Geology & Geophysics.

Rose Rita enjoys working with YIBS-related Yale faculty and the Gaylord Donnelley and YIBS Postdoctoral Environmental Associates, whose research and teaching interests intersect with environment issues.  The YIBS umbrella is far reaching, from departments on Science Hill - including Anthropology, Astrology, Chemistry, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Economics, School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, Geology & Geophysics, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology – and spreading across campus to the Medical School’s Department of Epidemiology & Public Health and to the School of Architecture.
