News Flash US AIRWAYS: Scam alert Posted 4/4/12

If you have not been made aware, please take note that US Airways has been the target of a Phishing Scam.  Below is some information that may prove useful to communicate to your travelers.

US Airways is the latest airline to warn customers about scams targeting its customers. The scam involving US Airways appears to involve fraudulent e-mail messages that notify customers about travel itineraries that they never made.

The e-mails have prompted chatter on social media sites, including Twitter. One fraudulent e-mail sent to a USA TODAY staffer advised her to check-in online for a flight from Washington Reagan National. She had no such itinerary, and the flight number listed in the e-mail does not appear to exist in US Airways' flight schedule.

Often referred to as "phishing," such e-mails usually are an attempt to dupe customers into revealing sensitive information such as financial account numbers or account passwords.

"We are advising our customers that if they receive a suspicious email, they should not click on any links or open any attachments," US Airways spokesman Andrew Christie says in an e-mail to Today in the Sky.

For those who fear they may have received a fraudulent e-mail, US Airways offered guidance on "what to look out for." The airline says:
Be suspicious of emails that begin with something generic like 'Dear user' or 'Dear customer' and that have typos or bad grammar.
Many of our emails include your name and Dividend Miles number. Our Web Check-in email doesn't have your name, but it has your valid confirmation code, which is never all numbers. It should be either alphanumeric or all letters.
Before you click, check the link by hovering your mouse pointer over it and identifying what URL (website) is displayed. A legitimate link will have a website address/URL with 'usairways.com.'

US Airways adds: "We also encourage our customers to report internet crime at http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx."

Fraudulent e-mails that prey on airline brands are not new. American and Delta are among other big U.S. airlines that have warned customers to be on alert in recent months.

Loretta Fossi, Field Sales Manager, US Airways, Inc.

News Flash United Continental Merger Update Posted 02/23/12

As you know, United and Continental will migrate to a single reservation system on Friday, March 2 nd and Saturday, March 3 rd . In anticipation of this event, Orbitz for Business and Orbitz Worldwide have been actively involved with the airlines and working on internal processes to ensure a smooth and seamless transition for you, our valued customers.

Below we want to share with you some of the key dates to consider and anticipate in conjunction with this upcoming migration.

It is important that you share this information with your travelers.

Orbitz for Business traveler impact:
• Beginning on Friday, March 2 nd at 6:00pm CT, Orbitz for Business will remove all Continental flights from our site, followed by United flights at 10:00pm CT the same day. United Airlines will start their conversion at 12:01am CT on Saturday, March 3 rd.
• The migration is scheduled for completion at 4:00am CT on March 3 rd , at which point only United flights will be available for sale going forward.
• Any tickets issued on Continental prior to the migration will still be valid for travel. Note : The only exception will be itineraries with significant schedule changes that may require the Continental tickets be refunded and reissued on United.
• If you have travel planned at any point from Friday, March 2 nd through Sunday, March 4 th , we strongly recommend that you checkin online prior to leaving for the airport and prepare for potential delays related to the migration effort.

United MileagePlus® Accounts:
• United will convert all current 11-digit MileagePlus® accounts to an 8-character alphanumeric account. If you previously linked your Continental OnePass® and United MileagePlus® accounts, your linked OnePass® account will become your new MileagePlus® number.
• If you did not previously link your OnePass® and MileagePlus® accounts, or you only have an 11-digit MileagePlus® account number, United will assign a system-generated, 8-character alphanumeric account to you.
• If not already, you will soon receive an email communication from United about your updated account number and other relevant information about your account going forward.

Next Steps:
• Following the migration to a single reservation system on Saturday, March 3 rd , please access your Orbitz for Business profile, go to My Account , remove the Continental OnePass® account and update the United MileagePlus® account for subsequent bookings. United will recognize both OnePass® and MileagePlus® for a short period following the migration, but we highly recommend you take this step at your earliest convenience after March 3 rd .
• Last but not least, the United Hub at http://hub.united.com is a valuable resource “for news and articles, answers to your questions, discussions and interactive guides on merger-related changes that impact how you plan, book and manage your travel.”

Thank you in advance for your understanding during this process. While we fully expect United’s migration efforts go smoothly and as planned, there may be issues outside of our control that cause the above timelines to be impacted. Regardless, we will continue to work closely with United to ensure minimal inconvenience.

News Flash MANDATORY SECURE FLIGHT INFORMATION ON AMERICAN AND UNITED
Posted:
8/30/10

American Airlines (AA) and United Airlines (UA) will require Secure Flight information for all bookings made on or about September 13, 2010.

As your travel partner, we want to make you aware of this requirement and how we are instituting the changes required by American Airlines and United Airliines. The anticipated date for Orbitz for Business requiring Secure Flight information on these two airliines is September 13, 2010.

Travelers need to provide Secure Flight information for:

  • Any booking that is made on or about September 13, 2010 that has AA or UA segment. This data will be required at the time of booking.
  • Any trips booked prior to September 13, 2010 with a travel date on or after November 1, 2010 that do not currently have Secure Flight information. Orbitz for Business will be providing new functionality on or about September 13, 2010 that will allow travelers to update these trips by going to the My Trips section. We will send out an advisory at that time to inform you of this change.

If the Secure Flight information is not provided when required, the traveler will not be able to board the airplane.

Secure Flight information includes:

  • Full name ( First, middle and last name as it appears on a valid government issued photo ID)
  • Gender
  • Date of birth
  • Redress number (if applicable)

All of a traveler's personally identifiable Secure Flight information is masked (hidden) to everyone except that traveler.

To avoid retyping this information for future booking, OFB recommends that travelers update Secure Flight information stored in their traveler's profile. This information is automatically included in the booking path and transmitted to the airlines at the time the reservation is made.
